Using MightyBoyEV - Giving MightyBoyEV a voice.....
As the little Mightyboy is used more
and more, one of the issues that I have become aware of is the lack of warnings
that the Mightyboy is actually switched on and ready to drive away. This is
mainly a problem when first time EV drivers use your vehicle. Because of the
lack of engine noise, after the key is turned on, they can think there is
something wrong and have the historic urge to “blip?the accelerator pedal.
Remembering you EV tends to have maximum torque at start-up; the result can be
extremely dangerous!
So after listening to
Nikki Bloomfield’s EVcast number 242 and the
bit on “The dreaded minefield of noise-making EVs? I decided to add a
multi-message voice recorder/player device under the dash. I have built up a
little box using the clever HK828 sound IC from Honsitak Electronics. These are
available from JayCar in Australia but only as a little kit, so you will need to
source the chip alone from overseas if you want to save a little money. Info
is on the web just Google “HK828”….
All seems to work well and is very well suited to NEV/EV DIY builders - I have included some photographs of the end product on this page.....
The device can store up to 8 messages each controlled separately so apart from the “Vehicle is now on? message (If your sound is enabled, you would have heard a sample start-up message - kind of stupid but gives you the idea! Refresh this page to hear it again....) , there are 7 other events you can speak about...
